Followers are not customers

It is easy to be impressed by a large follower count. It is much harder to know what it is worth. For a café, a clinic or a jeweller, the number that matters is how many people walked in, called or booked because of what they saw online.

Start with the business goal

Before planning a month of content, write down one sentence about what you want from it. More Saturday bookings. More walk-ins for a new collection. More calls for a service you rarely get asked about. That sentence decides what you post, when you post it and what you measure.

Match the content to the goal

A goal of recognition calls for content that is memorable and easy to share. A goal of bookings calls for content that shows the experience and makes the next step obvious. The same restaurant needs both, but not in every post.

Measure what the business can feel

Track the things you can connect to real activity: messages received, calls, bookings, coupon or mention codes at the counter. Reach and views are useful signals, but they are the beginning of the story and not the end of it.

A simple monthly question

At the end of each month, ask one thing: did our online presence help the business do what we wanted it to do? If the answer is unclear, the plan needs a clearer goal, not more posts.
